Strong Coupling Phenomena on the Noncommutative Plane
We study strong coupling phenomena in U(1) gauge theory on the noncommutative plane. To do so, we make use of a T-dual description in terms of an N → ∞ limit of U(N) gauge theory on a commutative torus. The magnetic flux on this torus is taken to be m = N − 1, while the area scales like 1/N , keeping ΛQCD fixed. With a few assumptions, we argue that the speed of high frequency light in pure non...
متن کاملDynamics and symmetries on the noncommutative plane
Sometime in 1996 Jurek visited us in Bielefeld and asked about a dynamical particle model showing the presence of the second central charge of the planar Galilean group. This was a new and very interesting question. Soon we agreed that such a model must necessarily contain higher order time derivatives of the particle coordinates within a Lagrangian. After Bielefeld Jurek visited Wojtek Zakrzew...
متن کاملBosonization in the Noncommutative Plane
In this brief note, we study bosonization of the noncommutative massive Thirring model in 2+ 1dimensions. We show that, contrary to the duality between massive Thirring model and Maxwell-Chern-Simons model in ordinary spacetime, in the low energy (or large fermion mass) limit, their noncommutative versions are not equivalent, in the same approximation.
متن کاملNoncommutative Gauge Theory on the q-deformed Euclidean Plane
The physical nature of space at very short distances is still not known. Already Heisenberg proposed in a letter to Peierls [1] that spacetime is quantized below some scale, suggesting that this could help to resolve the problem of infinities in quantum field theories. With this motivation, there has been a lot of work and progress in the formulation of quantum field theory on quantized or nonc...
متن کاملQuantum Mechanics on the Noncommutative Plane and Sphere
We consider the quantum mechanics of a particle on a noncommutative plane. The case of a charged particle in a magnetic field (the Landau problem) with a harmonic oscillator potential is solved. There is a critical point with the density of states becoming infinite for the value of the magnetic field equal to the inverse of the noncommutativity parameter. The Landau problem on the noncommutativ...
